3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

As my music magazine is pop genre I would think that it would be published by either EMAP (East Midland Allied Press) or IPC (International Publishing Corporation) as EMAP is the publisher of Smash Hits and The Face which are also music magazines aimed at the same teenage age group as MicroFone, IPC is the publisher of NME so if my magazine was to be published by IPC it would be bringing something new to the table as there would be a gap in their market for my magazine so it will attract new readers. The advantages of going with a publisher such as IPC is that they are a one of the biggest multinational media companies in the world so they would be able to publish my magazine in other parts of the world and get it well known, the big publishers can also get distribution deals with some of the largest magazine retailers in the UK such as WHSmith and will pay just as much attention to advertisers as they would the target audience in order to maximise the profits.
As my magazine is for a medium sized market using a big company such as IPC would benefit my magazine because they would be able to help me get my magazine out to the readers a lot faster and also as my magazine would be new I would have to pay for financial costs and would lose money that IPC would be able to cover. However I would lose editorial control over my magazine so therefore they may try and change the magazine so it may not target the audience it was meant for. If I decided to do the magazine myself it means I would have full editorial control, therefore I would be able to sustain the target audience, however I may not be able to afford to publish or distribute it so I wouldn’t be able to get my magazine well known. After bearing all of these points in mind I have decided to publish with a medium sized company as I would still have some percentage of editorial control and financial help would be offered.
