2.How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The audience I am targeting are a medium sized market and don’t fit under a certain social group as they are all similar but not put into one category such as Emo’s, Chav’s, Goth’s etc. Demographically the people I am targeting are between the ages of 14 to mid-20’s and these would be mainly females, but to even the audience out I have also included some male images for those male readers. The readers would most probably be from working class estates to middle class houses and would be those in society that are sensible and aspire to be like the models in my magazine. You would find them in the social status class of C1, C2 and D.
The similarities between the two images show how teenage girls make themselves look confident, from the picture on the right even though she has her head down it still makes her stand out and look interesting but I thought that direct contact into the camera would be more effective for the reader as I have used this in my main image on the left. Their posture is very upright and strong in order show their power and it supports the slogan ‘love music, love freedom’.
However the left image is in colour and i’ve made mine deliberately in black and white as I felt that teenage girls are often worried about appearance and looking glamorous in order to attract, so for them to have a role model featured in black and white to represent that you don’t have to look beautiful to stand out you can just rely on your confidence will make them feel better about themselves. I have represented the class in my image as the model is wearing decent clothing and that will portray the fact that she is wealthy but the urban background shows that she isn’t upper class.
